What you can do with airtable-records-core-openapi via MCP

Every endpoint below becomes a governed tool your AI agent (Claude, ChatGPT, or a customer-facing VX agent) can call — with scoped permissions, sandbox testing, and audit logs.

POST /{base_id}/{table_id_or_name} createRecords Create records in a table

Bearer token — sent as Authorization: Bearer <token>

Usage guide

Getting credentials

  1. Create or log in to an account at Airtable.
  2. Open the Developer Hub and create a Personal Access Token.
  3. Grant only the scopes and bases required for this connection, such as record read or record write access.
  4. When VX Agent asks for authentication, provide the token using Bearer authentication.

Keep the token private. Do not paste it into the Swagger file, marketplace description, prompts, or chat messages.

How to use this API

Use the Airtable Records API to read and maintain structured records in Airtable bases and tables. It is useful for lightweight CRM, inventory, content calendars, lead tracking, project registers, and internal workflow databases.

Before calling an operation, identify the correct base_id and table_id_or_name. The base ID usually begins with app, and the table name must be URL-encoded when it contains spaces or special characters.

A typical workflow is:

  1. Use GET /{base_id}/{table_id_or_name} to inspect records in the target table.
  2. Use filterByFormula, view, fields[], pageSize, and offset to limit the records returned.
  3. Use POST /{base_id}/{table_id_or_name} to create one or more records with field values.
  4. Use PATCH /{base_id}/{table_id_or_name} to update existing records by their Airtable record IDs.
  5. Use DELETE /{base_id}/{table_id_or_name} with the selected record IDs only after the user explicitly confirms deletion.

Always inspect the table and existing records before writing. Confirm the target base, table, record IDs, field names, and field values before creating or updating records. Use small batches and pagination when working with many records.

Safety and usage notes

Creating, updating, or deleting Airtable records changes the user's data. Ask for confirmation before every consequential write, bulk update, or deletion. Deleting records may not be reversible, so never delete records based only on an ambiguous natural-language request.

Only access bases and tables authorized by the connected user. Do not expose personal data, customer information, business records, or confidential field values. Do not use a full-access token when a read-only or narrowly scoped token is sufficient.

The Airtable API returns records according to the field permissions and token scopes. Treat formulas, linked records, attachments, and automation-triggering fields carefully. Do not expose the Personal Access Token or store it in the Swagger file.
